Main Characters
Cole “Charlie” Nero – Cole is a typical teenager who doesn’t feel understood by his parents. He’s generally seen as a sour young man with a sarcastic attitude. This plus his tendency to stay shut in his room all day has caused him to lead a very uneventful life. Most of his day is spent practicing martial arts and tending to the indoor garden in his room. He finds both activities relaxing and a good distraction from his stressful relationship with his father. One day, however, Cole somehow finds himself in a strange machine that turns him into a pokemon and flings him into the wild. In his confusion he was easily captured by an over-enthusiastic new trainer, Brian, and given the name “Charlie”.
In the current storyline: Professor Cedar’s taken a strange interest in Cole and has started subjecting him to a serious of rigorous physical tests. Unsure what exactly is going on, Cole cooperates but remains on guard. Something tells him that Cedar isn’t exactly “all there”. And yet he can’t help but feel like all this could be helpful. It’s been a week since Maoh’s attacked, maybe it’s okay to relax a little.
Brian Wheaton – Brian is the third child of Mr. and Mrs. Wheaton. Both of which are wealthy entrepreneurs and respectable in the Lassoh region. His mother’s line has held the position of Marquee Gym Leader for generations, and his sister has recently succeeded her. He stands in the shadows of his family with a smile on his face and a cold determination to prove himself. Usually without taking any necessary precautions before doing so. He is impulsive and light-hearted, and never quick to anger, but always quick to conclusions. He’ll rush head first into anything, and is often surprised at what awaits him. He’s a little dense and naive, but he means well and has the potential to be a great trainer, one day.
In the current storyline: Professor Cedar’s awfully interested in Charlie. Brian has to wonder just what’s going on. Sure Charlie’s always seemed smarter than average and was probably trained before Brian caught him, but could it be something is wrong with his first catch?
Bud – Bud the Bulbasaur is the starting pokemon of choice for Brian. The pair match well in personality, though Bud is still impressionable. He is eager to please and will follow orders almost exactly. Often leading to injury, considering the nature of his trainer. But Bud doesn’t hold grudges, and if anything, considers each loss a learning experience for both him and Brian. He’s also the first one to believe Charlie, er…Cole’s story about being a human. But not through any sort of proof, but by a hunch and his gut.
In the current storyline: Bud’s torn between his feelings of loyalty toward Cole and the fear that Kraker might just be right about him. Having just witnessed Cole after he’s snapped, Bud’s faith in him has been shaken. Either way, Bud needs to have a chat with Kraker.
Dante – Dante’s a wild Cubone. Caught, not by Brian, but by Cole when he had to outmaneuver a swarm of beedril in Crop Forest. Boastful and loud, Dante seems to use a mask of confidence in order to hide a sad child afraid of being ridiculed and unable to fend for itself. Dante’s found the only pokemon, or person for that matter, that’s ever shown affection of any sort in Cole. Because of this, Dante willingly discards life in the wild to be with him.
In the current storyline: Cole’s been taken away without much explanation. This Professor thing just said he needed to look at him. Not one to sit around much, Dante decides it’s time to bust him out! Who put these human things in charge anyway?
Raijal Tanner – Raijal Tanner is a veteran trainer in the Lassoh region. He’s completed a full circuit of the gyms 2 years ago, and recently started his second. Determined to beat his 10th place placement in the championship. But sometimes a simple errand can change your entire plan. Tasked by Professor Cedar to deliver a mysterious pokeball to his colleague Professor Nero, some weeks ago, Raijal has found himself tempted, teleported, overpowered and controlled by the sinister psychic known to many as Maoh the Magnificent. But all of this would only lead up to Charlie, the strange Charmander caught by Brian Wheaton. Determined to not be disregarded as a simple tool, Raijal has started working on a way to get back at the little pink puppeteer. If only he knew where to begin.
In the current storyline: Using the quirky gym leader of Crop Town as a corespondent, Raijal’s been conducting a bit of research on the vagrant mew that had attacked him. There’s not much to go on but a collection of children stories by one Lilian Fletcher, but perhaps there’s something simple that he’s missing…
Kraker – Sadistic and unrelenting. A powerhouse of electric potential energies and a partiality for pain. Kraker is, at essence, an artist. His canvas just happens to be your face. But it’s nothing personal, really. He’s just out to do his job, and do it well. He’s a bully and prankster, and will gladly stomp on your tail for a cheap laugh. If not for his utter loyalty to his friends and deep sense of justice, he might be considered a down right jacka$&.
In the current storyline: Kraker’s been deployed to help Charlie ward off Maoh. Raijal told Brian it would be a good idea for everyone to travel outside of their pokeballs. The psycho doesn’t seem to attack if there’s more than one target. Unfortunately, Professor Cedar’s taken Charlie out of Kraker’s sight. But he guesses since it’s a professor, he knows what he’s doing. He really shouldn’t worry so much….right?
Chapter Specific Characters
Professor Ralph Cedar – The professor in charge of the secondary Pokemon laboratory and the original pokemon professor of the Lassoh region until Prometheus took over. Many think he holds a grudge over it, but as far as Cole can tell there’s not an aggressive bone in the man’s body. Though, his life is very much in the Professor’s hands and it is scary to think of what the professor could be capable of if he ever found out Cole was Theo’s son…
Phiedbach – Phiedbach is Professor Cedar’s energetic little Ratatta. Jittery, paranoid and all around loony. Her feedback collar monitors her vitals and brain activity. The more excited she gets, the more active the collar gets. She’s been subjected to neuroscientific experiments for the duration of her life since Cedar caught her. Nothing to Muahaha over, mind you. Phie’s always been a bit of a nut job. She’s also a wild Ratatta in that she isn’t bound to a pokeball. She was caught and trained manually.
Supporting Characters
Professor Prometheus Nero - Cole’s scatter brained father. He’s always tooling around with some machine or researching pokemon. His obsession seems to have taken over his life, so much so that he can’t seem to balance raising a child along with it. What could have possibly spurred this man into such a frenzy?
Sapphire Nero – Cole’s mother. Loving and well meaning, she asks for little and gives as much as she can. She’s never questioned her husband’s decisions, fooling herself into thinking her boys would fix their problems on their own. However, she’s just about fed up with their animosity and is going to show everyone that she can be a reckoning force, as well.
Ivaline Wheaton – Retired gym leader and mother of three. Brian is her youngest and certainly her ‘baby’. She does not coddle, though she sometimes wants to. Her laid back matter-of-fact attitude makes her difficult to read, and though she stays at home most of her day, she’s proven to be a shrewd negotiator and armed with a silver tongue.
Vivian Nepenthe – A young prodigy at practically everything, she’s studied all sorts of difficult fields of science as if they were passing fancies. She could be a certified nurse if she took the time to apply, or she could be a respected historian if she bothered publishing her findings. She’s also a tactical genius and a proven master at pokemon training. She was given the job of the Crop Town Gym leader, though her attention isn’t always on testing new trainers.
Shelby – A wizened old Squirtle. Raijal’s original starter 2 years ago. Because of Raijal’s perfectionist demeanor, he has seen and done much more than most starters ever do. Because of this he has become a great leader of his team, and an incredible thinker. He does have his quirks, however. He’s a hypochondriac and a neurotic worry-wart. And yet when the need arises, he’s the first on the front line.
Eve – Raijal caught Eve several months ago, back then a bumbling little eevee. She accidentally evolved into a Jolteon when she went digging through Raijal’s backpack and found a stray thunderstone, originally meant for her teammate, Kraker. This transgression has led to a little friction between the two electric types, but Kraker holds little ill will toward her and regards her as lucky to have found it. Determined to never cross her superiors again, she’s adopted an almost soldier-like facade. Though she will often falter when something interests or confuses her.
Tertiary Characters
Mandragora “Mandy” Wheaton – Official Leader of the Marquee Gym. She’s bubbly and bright but holds a special love for snake pokemon.
Officer Johnny – One of the many officers of the law in Lassoh. His jurisdiction lies in the road between Bevel and Marquee. Although he has a small fear of motor vehicles, that doesn’t stop him from tearing up the highway on his ten-speed. This ability to make the, roughly, 200 mile journey from Bevel to Marquee in under 12 hours has earned him the nickname “Johnny Rocket”
Nurse Jay – A relatively new nurse at the Marquee Pokemon Center. He runs the facility all by himself but isn’t usually burdened by it. The season having just barely started, he finds he has quite a bit of time sitting around sipping tea, and..ahem…nurse a small infatuation with the new Gym Leader. He did find a strange anomoly in Charlie, Brian’s recently caught charmander, but he’s willing to chalk it up to computer failure and has forwarded a message to his superiors inquiring about it. They have yet to anwser.
Nurse JJ – A relative of Nurse Jay, though not as enthusiastic about his position. His laid back attitude and strange style of dress often fail to allow people to take him seriously. However he is a skilled healer and has proven this over the years.
